"The Black-Eyed Susan Book Award is a children’s choice award for the state of Maryland. Each year since 1992, the Black-Eyed Susan Book Award has been given to authors and/or illustrators of outstanding books chosen for the award by Maryland students. The award seeks to promote literacy and lifelong reading habits by encouraging students to read quality, contemporary literature."

How to Participate
Important: This program is voluntary.
1) Read the books
Picture Books

Students must read, or have read to them 8 of the 15 nominees
Grades 4-6

Students must read, or have read to them 3 of the nominees
Graphic Novels Grades 4-6

Students must read, or have read to them 3 of the nominees
2) Record the books you read by:
-
stopping by the media center and pick up a comment sheet. Each student will only need one sheet. Turn in the sheet to the media center when you have read the necessary amount of books.
